It started as an internal joke inside Microsoft. Executive KC Lemson created a slide for an internal presentation featuring a mashup of Jason Heuser’s "Welcome to the Internet" art—a ninja cat carrying a Windows flag while riding a fire-breathing unicorn.
When employees saw the slide, they wanted it as a sticker. Teams printed laptop stickers, and as Microsoft staff attended conferences, tech enthusiasts noticed the stickers and demanded them too. The meme blew up online, prompting Microsoft to embrace it officially for the Windows Insider program.
"NinjaCat became an official emblem of Windows 10 innovation, celebrated with custom wallpapers, emojis, and even a plush mascot cake for the Windows Insider 1st Anniversary!"
